What do I need to know about taking photos on the Canyon Overlook Trail at Zion National Park?
The Canyon Overlook Trail is a must-do for anyone visiting Zion National Park. It can be a lovely addition to your wedding day. Imagine spending part of your first day as husband and wife with these views! It is the shortest hike in the park to get you to a viewpoint overlooking Zion Canyon. The view is absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset.
The hike takes approximately 1-hour round trip, but you will naturally want to plan time for photos, too. Good news – no permit is needed to take pictures on this trail so it is an ideal location for post-ceremony photos. Rated as a moderate hike, there is an elevation gain of 163 feet on the trail. Parts are steep, but it is doable. This trail is open for hiking year-round but may be muddy due to rain or icy in the winter. It is important to note that pets are not allowed.

How do I get to the Canyon Overlook Trail at Zion National Park?
There is not a shuttle stop for the trail, but the Zion National Park website provides the following directions for getting to the trailhead. From the Springdale & Zion Canyon Visitor Center, continue 1.4 miles on SR-9 to the south entrance of Zion National Park. Once inside the park, continue on SR-9 for another 5.9 miles. You will drive up a group of switchbacks on the mountain and eventually go through the Zion Mount Carmel tunnel. As soon as you exit the tunnel there is a small parking lot on your right-hand side. The trail starts right across the street.
